The “Kiel University Research Group on International Political Sociology“ (KUIPS) was established in 2010 at the Institute of Social Sciences to advance inter- and transdisciplinary research at the nexus of sociology and the political science subfield of International Relations (IR). Research at KUIPS aims to combine thorough philosophical and metatheoretical analysis with a careful application of central sociological concepts (discourse, power, role, identity, culture, social change, conflict) in the field of IR. Poststructuralism, critical theory, qualitative methods for empirical analysis, comparative regionalism, climate change, ocean governance, security studies, and the international relations of Asia and the European Union are the main strands of our research.
