Local Ocean Solution Hub (Netzwerk für Internationale Meerespolitik)

Project description

Local Ocean Solution Hub (Netzwerk für Internationale Meerespolitik)

In order to promote a sustainable maritime policy public awareness is key to face the great challenges of the necessary change processes. A new way of thinking e.g. with regard to the existing production and consumption patterns, the participation and cooperation with diverse stakeholders, a strong consensus and new partnerships as well as collective agreements are all conditions for creating global change and can only be achieved on the basis of a broader public dialogue.

To encourage this process the establishment of a science-driven Local Ocean Solution Hub (LOSH) in Kiel is prepared. The aim is to foster a close, context-specific and regionally-focused engagement with actors from politics, economy and society, develop transdisciplinary research questions and work on common projects. A LOSH as a common platform for exchange and cooperation of different stakeholders aims at combining the existing expertise and making it more visible, strengthening cooperation and better exploiting of synergies.  The overarching goal is to enhance the maritime profile of individual players as well as of the city of Kiel.

The project is funded by the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean”. The Future Ocean is funded within the framework of the Excellence Initiative by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) on behalf of the German federal and state governments.
