Ocean Atlas

Project description

The Ocean Atlas project is conducted by the Cluster of Excellence ’The Future Ocean’ in cooperation with the Heinrich-Böll Foundation Schleswig-Holstein/Kiel and the Heinrich-Böll Federal Foundation/Berlin.

The project aims at promoting the educational work related to ocean affairs in Schleswig-Holstein and beyond. Based on the successful atlases (e.g. BodenatlasKohleatlas) published by the Heinrich-Böll Federal Foundation jointly with Le monde diplomatique, BUND and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) an ocean atlas is produced that should provide impulses for a political and social discussion on the growing threats to the ocean, our life-supporting system. The atlas will comprise 26 double pages, each of which will cover a special thematic field. The work pursues a high visual but low-threshold approach of knowledge transfer. Based on interviews with scientific experts the texts are created by a professional writer.

The Atlas is to appear in German and English language in June 2017 and will be distributed by the Heinrich-Böll Foundation in Germany as well as in its foreign representations.
